Google Checkout vs PayPal

Thursday, 29 June 2006

Google_checkout Google checkout is finally here, but will it be the PayPal killer it's hyped to be? Unfortunately if you are a merchant without a US address and bank account you can't use it so you'll never know.

To spot participating merchants look out for the shopping cart appearing next to advert display URLs.

Obviously they will have tested this to destruction but I am extremely interested to find out how they cope with the financial fraud issues that will inevitably occur. If you want to learn more about the trials and tribulations of setting up a service like Pay Pal and why Google will face a tough time, I suggest tuning in to the great Max Levchin (Co-founder of PayPal) Interview on NERD TV quote "I don't think it was all stolen, so to say. But I think about a hundred million dollars must have been spent all told in various forms of antifraud efforts."

Google checkout is great but still paypal has more advantage like they are accepting payment from 55 countries and google only from two.
