Paid to search on Yahoo! and MSN

Monday, 20 February 2006

It looks like Yahoo! and MSN Search have realised their main hurdle in the serch engine war is getting users to actually adopt their search engines as primary choice, and they just can't wait to throw money at us in order to make that happen.

First off we hear Yahoo! is considering offering incentives to users who make Yahoo! their primary search engine, supposedly surveys were sent out earlier this month to find out if users would be interested in the incentives that include, free music downloads, ad free Yahoo Mail, unlimited e-mail storage, discounts on Yahoo's online dating service and discounts on the Netflix.

Then Microsoft comes out with "Search and Win" - $1Million of prizes and charity donations, with the chances to win randomly placed into their search engine results page. Simply click the "Search and Win" link in the results and you could win a prize. Lisa Gurry, director of marketing, MSN Search says “MSN Search offers the results you’re looking for, and for the next several months we’re rewarding customers for trying our service — hundreds of prizes are ready to be awarded, so start searching!”. Don't get to excited just yet though, although the scheme sounds great dissapointingly it is open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia.
