Google trends demonstrates generic travel terms in decline

Even though news volumes are up, searches for generic terms are down by what appears to be almost 25% since 2004.

This ties in nicely with other studies showing increasing sophistication on the part of search engine users, longer search queries and more direct navigation as they begin to be more familiar with sites that deliver reliable experiences. Also you shouldn't ignore seasonality within your search planning :-)
